Rector of Herzen University and Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Education. Dr. Bogdanov is a deputy chair of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, bureau member of the Society for Russian Literature, member of the Public Council of the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science, member of the Russian Language Promotion Board of St. Petersburg, Chair of the Audit Board of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, member of the Russian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, and member of the Worldwide Club of St. Petersburgers. As a researcher, his scholarly interests include general linguistics, theory of modern Russian and the use of Russian as the national language of the Russian Federation. He holds several government awards and decorations, including the Merit to the Nation Medal Second Class and certificates of merit from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. In 2003, he received a Presidential Award for his contributions to education and in 2010 he earned a special commendation letter from the President of Russia. Dr. Bogdanov has led several major research and publication projects, including: The Russian Dictionary of Humanities, A Comprehensive Dictionary of Russian Language Norms, A Concise Encyclopaedia for School Students, a new generation of textbooks of Russian language and Russian literature, the Three Centuries of St. Petersburg encyclopaedia, the Let Us Speak Correctly dictionary series, and a set of textbooks for secondary schools.
